First words...

I never asked my mom what was the first word I uttered.
I think I should have.
Come to think about it, and I tend to get obsessed with tiny trifles like this,
such words can be pointers to the future... we usually learn all this too late in life.
My daughter Mimi [real name Maujiza which means ultimate miracle in Persian,
and in Urdu which is my mother tongue -the genesis of her name tempts me to
recall here the genesis, after all what's the fun in writing a blog if deeply buried
memories are not aired?
A very late marriage and no kids for ten years made us jaded I guess. We went
in for modern fertility treatment and landed into worse problems than before.
Mimi was conceived as a surprise just as we were settling down to a childless
future. I predicted a girl and my wife Nino said a boy -we rarely agree on anything
as such. I won, so I got the chance to name the child with my initial 'M'.
Maujiza sprang to my mind because there are five grades of miracles in Urdu.
They are :-
Ajooba -an ordinary sleight of the hand trick
Karishma - a substantial wonderment
Karaamat - an accomplished saint performing a miracle
Li'llah - a miracle possible through the Prophet, may peace be on him
Maujiza -the ultimate miracle, only Allah can bring about.
What was the first word my little miracle uttered?
I can never forget that.
She yelled 'No!'
I predicted she would grow up to be happy well-adjusted individual.
Why?
Because in Gujarati [my other mother tongue] we have a saying:
Ek nunno soh dukh hanay.
One emphatic no will kill one hundred sorrows...
meaning if you do not know how to say 'No' you are a hotbed of sorrows,
people will make you life miserable. Saying NO! is an art.
These are my first words here, friends, hope something clicks with someone.
I would love to have likeminded friends. See my profile and connect please...
